The first snow of the year happened today. I had not yet made the switch over to my winter tires either. On Thursday it was 72 degrees. We went out of town for the weekend and today it snowed. I had to make the trip to the tire place on my summer tires, and let me tell you, that's pretty harrowing.
I couldn't make it up one hill, so I had to reverse down the hill into oncoming traffic lanes because the other lanes were filled with slush. I made it across a slushy section, though there was some difficulty doing even that, and managed to get into the parking lot without sliding into anyone else.
Then after work I picked it back up with the winter wheels and tires on it and it was just fine to drive. Of course, now it looks like crap because I just have steel wheels for the winter, but at least I can drive it.

Tellin' ya, go to ebay and snag a set of plastic wheel covers for maybe $40. Used to do that for the Altima and while they didn't look as nice as the summer wheels, they looked decent.
That's exactly what I have. I bought a set of the Altima hubbies to go on the steel rims. It looks almost respectable that way.
Oh. Well, you just said it looked like crap.
Also... one day, Ryan and I will come to Cleveland in the winter and teach you how to drive in the snow so that your skirt doesn't get ruffled in "harrowing" times like this.
:-)
I think his car has traction control, too.
It does, but when you have ultra high performance SUMMER tires, they don't really like snow. At all. Or temperatures below 40. They kind of just turn into hard bricks of rubber.
With your elderly style of driving, I'm not really clear on why you have "ultra high performance" tires at all.
